The BendHub guide

BendHub is where Bend packages live. You publish a package from the bend command line, anyone imports it, and people post about it here.

1.Packages.

A package is a set of .bend, .c and .js files, and a LICENSE, named by the hash of its content, like 0x3f9a…. The same files always have the same hash, and a package never changes once published, so an import by hash always gets the files it was written against. Publishing needs no account:
bend main.bend --publish
It prints the hash and the line that imports it: import 0x<hash>/main.bend as Main. What is published is public and permanent, under BendHub's terms; a package without a LICENSE file is under MIT-0, the default license.
A package's description is the comment on the first line of the file you publish: # A JSON parser and printer as the first line of main.bend shows under the package, and under its name, in the hub's lists. With no comment there, the package has none.

2.Names.

A name is a readable handle for your packages, with versions of four numbers that only go up: import my-library@1.0.0.0/main.bend as Lib imports the package that version names, forever. Log in once with bend login, then publish and name in one step, or name a package already on the hub:
bend main.bend --publish my-library@1.0.0.0
bend link my-library@1.0.1.0 0x<hash>
A name of 12 characters or more is free: the first publish under it registers it to your account. A shorter name, like std or json, is won at auction (section 4). A name is yours to use, never to sell, and it does not expire. A package is named by one account only: the one that published it logged in, or, for one published without a login, the first to name it.

3.Posts.

A post links to a package or a name@version, with a title and a text. Posts are voted up or down and ranked like a news board; a name's page shows the posts about it. Under a post, people with a BendAI account comment and reply to each other; comments are voted on too, the best first. Packages rank by how many packages import them and how many posts point at them, never by votes.

4.Auctions.

A name under 12 characters is won at an open auction, paid in BendAI credits. Find one on the auctions page, or go to its page, /n/<name>: the first bid on a free short name opens its auction.
names3 to 11 characters: a-z, 0-9 and -, starting with a letter
first bidat least 5 credits
each next bidthe top bid plus 1 credit or 5% of it, whichever is more
length48 hours from the first bid
soft closea bid in the last hour moves the end to an hour after it
winnerthe top bid at the end, which pays its own amount
withdrawwithin 14 days of winning, while no version is linked
names per account100, counting names you own and auctions you lead
auctions opened5 in any 24 hours
While your bid leads, its amount is held from your credits: it stays in your balance but cannot be spent. When someone outbids you, the hold is released at once, and a bid that loses is never charged. When the auction ends, the winning bid is charged and the name is yours; link a version under it with bend link or --publish name@version. A bid is binding and cannot be taken back. Bidders are not shown, only the bids and, once it is won, the name's owner.
To follow your auctions, and how much of these limits you use, open your bids, also under your name at the top of every page. The terms for names say the rest.
